What medinote Cannot Do
Being straight about the limits is part of running a legitimate service. A physician will tell you during the consultation if what you need falls outside them.
- Backdate a certificate. A physician can only certify a period they have assessed — they cannot retroactively certify dates they never saw you for.
- Guarantee a certificate. The consultation is a real medical assessment; if a certificate is not clinically justified, the physician will say so.
- Complete detailed fitness-for-duty or functional-capacity evaluations that require an in-person physical examination or a specialist opinion.
- Perform physical examinations, imaging, or lab work.
- Prescribe controlled substances (opioids, benzodiazepines, stimulants).
